A Thief With A Taste for fRENCH fRAMES

Last week while staying overnight at a friends in Toronto someone broke into my car and stole a few items of no value like a box of Kleenex. a roll of small garbage bags and my business cards along with the business cards of some of my contacts and associates. They also stole a pair of sunglasses, my small Kodak Camera, and a briefcase full of papers, total value to replace so far a few hundred dollars. The value to the thief even less!!Funky Glasses

It is unlikely that you will but if You happen to see a person walking around with a pair of funky glasses that look like this there is a good possibility that they are mine.

These Glasses are a different story, they are not funky sunglasses they are special prescription glasses. The glass has a special tint that is for a very rare eye disorder. They help reduce the strain on my eyes and face that are caused by the disorder. The frames are imported from France and are fairly new in Canada. Unless the person who stole them or who ever ends up with them suffers the same eye condition as I do, and requires the same prescription I do, their value to the thief is almost nothing. In fact they may even cause harm to themselves or others by wearing a prescription that is not meant for them.

While everthing is replaceable the cost to replace the stolen items and repair the damage to my car likely will exceed $3,500 meanwhile the value to the thief perhaps $100.

Kathy,

I'm sorry that you experienced this....I hope that replacing the items that were stolen goes smoothly and your decuctable on your insurance is low.

Strange that they would steal business cards!

Jo - Deductibles is interesting ... did you know that the items stolen from your car are covered not by your car insurance but your homeowners insurance therefore you may have two deductibles to pay and any business items like a lock box may not be covered at all.

re: strange ... That and the Kleenex and garbage bags.

Kathy, that's terrible.  I'm so sorry your funky glasses are gone. You just got them.
I'm also sorry this happened to you.   Who would want your business cards?

Kathy, I knew about the home insurance covering car thefts, but I believe if you have business insurance on your car, it will also cover your business items/tools of the trade (at least I think that's what my insurance company told me).

I hope this thief realizes that you really need your glasses, and hopefully drops them off where they can be returned to you (maybe he'll be smart enough to put your business card with them).

Sylvie - The Optometrist says it will be about two weeks for the new frames to come from France.

It was the adjuster who told me the business items were not covered but we will see. I have to talk to my agent because I believe they should be covered.

I imagine once they realize they are prescription glasses not just funky sun glasses they will just toss them.

Kathy what a shame! Those glasses were worth so much to you and nothing to the thief. I don't get the paper items etc. The glasses and the camera I get. Maybe the thief will at least have learned to try the glasses before they steal them :-)

The whole thing is so utterly futile!

Janice - weird to say the least.  I imagine they wanted the briefcase not the papers,The papers have no value and were not important to anyone but me, they are for the most part replaceable.
